The nose is the central feature of the face. As such, it can really make a difference in how we see our faces. That’s why surgical nose surgery, clinically known as rhinoplasty, is always one of the top five most popular cosmetic surgeries.
But, while many people have features about their noses that they aren’t thrilled with, they’re not interested in surgical nose surgery. That’s why we offer a non-surgical rhinoplasty at Acqua Medspa. Instead of surgical alterations, these involve using dermal fillers to augment certain areas of the nose, changing the shape and definition.
Sometimes called liquid rhinoplasty, in non-surgical rhinoplasty, the goal is to alter and shape a patient’s nose without surgery. As the owner of Acqua Medspa, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kimberly Carpin uses mainly hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane and Juvéderm, for these procedures. She injects these fillers to augment areas of the nose and mask problems such as a bump on the bridge or a drooping tip. This is all done in just 15 minutes and there is no recovery time.
Obviously, the main benefit is not having to go through surgery. Rhinoplasty is a delicate surgical procedure that creates a good deal of tissue trauma because the soft tissues of the nose are lifted off of the underlying bone and cartilage. This allows access to make alterations to these structures, but it also inevitably creates enduring swelling and bruising. Swelling after surgical nose surgery can come and go for months following the surgery.Â
With non-surgical rhinoplasty, Dr. Carpin Plastic Surgeon and her Physician Assistant Master Injector Angelica Jackson are able to make many of the same alterations available through surgery, without any of the recovery and potential risks involved.
Another benefit of the use of fillers for liquid rhinoplasty is that it basically allows patients to “demo” different changes to their nose. The hyaluronic acid fillers used by. Dr. Carpin and her Physician Assistant Master Injector Angelica Jackson can be immediately neutralized by the injection of an enzyme known as hyaluronidase if the person doesn’t like the look of a certain change.
Plus, while it is also a downside, dermal fillers have a duration before the body absorbs the hyaluronic acid. In the nose, this is between six months and a year. At that point, if the patient seeks to alter the changes, they can. That’s not the case with surgical nose surgery.
Dr. Carpin and Physician Assistant Master Injector Angelica Jackson can address these cosmetic problems with your nose:
By making your nose straighter, non-surgical rhinoplasty can actually make your nose appear smaller, although it is actually augmented. Adding a definition has that effect.
Obviously, the ideal candidate wants to avoid nose surgery. Good candidates for liquid rhinoplasty usually have a bump on the bridge, a droopy tip, a mildly crooked nose, or a depression on the bridge or on the sidewalls. By filling the areas around the problem, the nose can appear to be perfectly straight and more defined.
There are limitations to this method. If the patient’s nose is larger than they like, it can’t be decreased in size without surgery. Non-surgical rhinoplasty also can’t improve issues with function after an earlier trauma.
Dr. Carpin and Master Injector Angelica Jackson perform these procedures. The first step is to use a topical anesthetic to completely numb the entire nose, making the dermal filler injections painless. They then injects the dermal filler into areas around the cosmetic problems that you discussed during your consultation. For instance, if you have a depression on your bridge, they will inject filler to bring that area up, making the bridge appear straight even though the depression in the underlying cartilage is still there. The procedure takes just 15 minutes for most patients.
That’s another thing about non-surgical rhinoplasty that our patients from Webster and the surrounding areas love — they see their new nose immediately. That’s because Juvéderm and Restylane provide immediate volume increases as soon as they are injected. No waiting for six months for your swelling to fully resolve, as with surgical nose surgery.
These procedures can easily be combined with other Acqua Medspa treatments. Many patients opt to also add volume to their lips with either Restylane Silk or Juvéderm Volbella. Chin augmentation with fillers is also a popular combination. Also, there’s no reason you can’t erase your crow’s feet Botox or Dysport injections at the same time you’re subtly changing your nose.
During your consultation, discuss other treatments you’re interested in combining into a single appointment. It’s easy to do and only takes a little more time.
Thanks to the topical anesthetic, you won’t feel pain with the injections. You may feel a slight sense of pressure, but that’s about it.
Dermal fillers provide instant results. When your 15-minute session is complete, you’ll love your new nose.
There is no recovery. You may have slight bruising for a couple of days at the injection sites, but this is minimal. Patients can get back to their regular activities immediately after leaving Dr. Carpin’s office.
Hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm, provide results usually from six months to one year. This varies with the patient’s metabolism and other factors. Radiesse is made from calcium hydroxyapatite instead of hyaluronic acid. It can provide results for up to 16 months.
One great aspect of using hyaluronic acid fillers too, in effect, “demo” a new nose, is that if you don’t like the look of your new nose the results can be erased. That’s because hyaluronic acid fillers can be instantly dissolved with injections of an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This can only be done with hyaluronic acid fillers.
The nice thing about non-surgical rhinoplasty is that patients are able to demo a new nose without the changes being permanent. As mentioned above, the filler can be immediately dissolved by injecting an enzyme, or you can simply wait for the fillers to be metabolized over the course of nine months to a year.
Then, if you like the changes in your nose and would like to make them permanent, Dr. Carpin can perform surgical rhinoplasty.
