What are Facial Fillers?

“Facial fillers” is a term that is used to describe the use of soft tissue fillers, also called dermal fillers, for facial rejuvenation. Our experienced providers address multiple signs of aging using dermal fillers from the RESTYLANE® product line. These include:

  • SILK®
  • LYFT®

We also use products from the JUVEDERM® family of facial fillers, including:

  • Juvederm Ultra
  • Juvederm Ultra Plus
  • Volbella
  • Voluma
  • Vollure
  • Volux

Additionally, we use RADIESSE®, which works using a different active ingredient, to achieve the desired effects. Finally, we offer SCULPTRA® injectable treatment for sustained effects addressing specific signs of aging.

Rest assured that your provider at Acqua Medspa can help you determine which facial filler product will most effectively address your cosmetic concerns.

How do Facial Fillers Work?

These products restore more youthful facial contours by adding volume to the deeper layers of the skin. Each family of facial fillers may use a different active ingredient. For example, RESTYLANE® and JUVEDERM® increase tissue volume using hyaluronic acid. RADIESSE® works by increasing collagen production via Calcium Hydroxylapatite particles. SCULPTRA® does so using Poly-L- lactic acid.

While all facial fillers work by increasing the volume of the tissue that contours the face, each does so in a slightly different manner. Your provider can describe to you how each product works. This way, you can choose your treatment from the most educated seat.

What Issues Can Facial Fillers Treat?

Facial fillers, by adding volume to the various layers of the skin, can treat concerns such as:

  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Undereye bags
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Hollowing at the temples
  • Deflated or poorly-contoured cheeks
  • Hollow cheeks
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Thin or deflated lips
  • Marionette lines
  • Jowls
  • Aging hands

Which Facial Fillers Do You Offer?

We offer a comprehensive selection of facial fillers, including:

We also routinely perform facial rejuvenation treatments using:

The latter are not classified as dermal fillers. However, they are often combined with dermal fillers to achieve even better results.

Are There Any Risks from Fillers?

Facial fillers have been studied closely for many years. The ingredients in each filler that add volume, as well as any ancillary ingredients, have been proven safe and effective. The most common side effects associated with injectable treatments include swelling, spot-redness, and bruising. Adverse reactions to facial fillers are uncommon. Your provider can discuss the risks that may pertain to you during your consultation.

Are Facial Filler Injections Painful?

We understand that you may be concerned about facial filler treatment being painful, especially if you’ve never undergone this procedure before. You’ll be happy to know that the process is both quick and virtually painless. Your provider uses a fine needle to administer your injections. You won’t need any anesthetic to remain comfortable. The sting of each minor injection is temporary and very mild. Some products also contain Lidocaine, which works quickly to decrease tissue sensitivity. We cannot say that facial filler injections are completely painless, but we can say that this treatment is easily tolerated due to the protocols that we have in place!
