Chin Enhancement with Injectables

Many of us have less than movie star-quality chins and jawlines. They may lack definition. They may recede. They may be weak. There may be a little too much junk going on under the jawline with a double chin.

At Acqua Medspa, Dr. Carpin can enhance your chin without surgery. She uses dermal fillers and often combines them with Kybella to provide the definition and chin enhancement sought by our patients from Webster, Houston, and the surrounding areas.

What is chin enhancement?

A defined chin and jawline are tenets of an attractive facial structure. They have long been considered to connote strength, confidence, and physical attractiveness. But many of us weren’t born with a chin that fits those parameters. That can change with chin enhancement.

At Acqua Medspa, Dr. Carpin performs chin enhancement using strategically placed injections of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers and Kybella. The preferred dermal fillers are Juvéderm Voluma XC, Juvéderm Vollure XC, and Radiesse. Kybella is used to reduce fat under the jawline that is creating a double chin. This slims the profile.

Dr. Carpin uses these fillers to add volume to the chin structure and enhance the patient’s facial balance. She strategically places the filler injections to improve the shape, size, and prominence of the patient’s chin.

What’s the difference between traditional chin augmentation and chin enhancement with injectables?

While the goals may be the same — a more defined, prominent chin and jawline — the methods are completely different.

Chin augmentation involves the placement of silicone or Gore-Tex implants. These are placed in surgical procedures through incisions in the mouth and possibly under the chin. These are permanent procedures, as the body usually builds tissue into and through the implants.

Chin enhancement uses the placement of targeted dermal filler injections to add shape and definition to the chin and jaw. To slim a double chin, Kybella injections are used to reduce accumulated fat. While the fat reduction with Kybella is permanent, the enhancements with dermal fillers are not. Over the course of 6 to 12 months, the body will absorb the fillers and the enhancements will fade.

Chin enhancement with dermal fillers is not permanent, which means repeat treatments every year or so. Some of our Acqua Medspa patients also use these non-permanent changes as a demo of sorts to see if they would like to make permanent surgical changes with Dr. Carpin’s plastic surgery practice.

Who is a good candidate for chin augmentation?

As with any cosmetic procedure, there are myriad reasons a patient opts to have Dr. Carpin make these enhancements. Most people assume chin augmentation is more of a thing for a man, seeking to have a chiseled chin. But the truth is, more women have this procedure to address a weak chin.

Patients often feel that their chin doesn’t add anything to their lower face. They feel it lacks proportion. In many cases, we see patients who feel their chin doesn’t provide enough space below their mouth and lips, the prototypical “weak” chin.

If you want to improve the definition of your neck and jawline, chin enhancement will do that. Kybella can define the profile by eliminating the fat that is weighing down the skin.

Candidates for these enhancements with injectables want to improve the shape, prominence, or size of their chin and jawline without resorting to surgery.

Is there any preparation for chin enhancement with Dr. Carpin?

There isn’t anything you need to do to prepare for these treatments, and there isn’t any downtime afterwards.

What can I expect from my results with chin enhancement?

It’s easy to forget about our chin, but when we see a strong chin on someone else, it’s easy for many of us to see how our chins don’t quite measure up…literally. While we often focus on our nose, eyes, and lips, our chin is the key to our jawline and the strength of the lower face. Through the injection of dermal fillers, Dr. Carpin can add definition to a weak chin. She can make a recessed chin longer. She can add volume in exactly the spots you’re lacking.

These procedures are very satisfying for our patients.

Will I have recovery after chin enhancement?

These are non-invasive injections of dermal fillers. There isn’t any recovery or downtime involved. The only thing to avoid for the first day or so after Dr. Carpin injects these fillers is any rubbing of the injection sites. This can make the filler migrate to an area where it wasn’t placed or intended.

If we’ve added Kybella injections to slim your double chin and profile, in addition to the use of dermal fillers, you will likely have some swelling. This is a sign that the deoxycholic acid that is Kybella is going after the fat, breaking it down. Swelling is usually most pronounced after the first injection session. There isn’t any recovery, per se, from this, but you probably want to avoid the public during the first week or so if you have this swelling.

How long will my results last from chin enhancement?

Results should last anywhere from 6 months to 15 months. Some of this depends on the dermal fillers Dr. Carpin uses for your enhancements, as different fillers have different lifespans. Some of this depends on you: your metabolism impacts how long before your body absorbs a dermal filler. Placement can also play a role, as areas with more movement tend to break down fillers more rapidly.

At some point, your body will absorb the hyaluronic acid in the injected fillers. At that point, it’s time to book another session at Acqua Medspa to maintain your new look.

Kybella is different. If we’ve added Kybella to reduce your double chin and tighten your profile, these are permanent improvements. Kybella breaks down fat where it is injected under the jawline. This fat is gone for good, and your slimmer profile should endure.
